The best way to stay in top shape is to exercise while you're on holiday!
The holiday period is coming up again! Always a wonderful prospect, just to relax and recharge your batteries. But unfortunately, it's also often a time when the pounds you trained so hard to lose last year, creep back on again. During your holiday you generally eat out more often, there is more drinking and it's not always possible to follow your normal routine.
On your way to your holiday destination in France and you'd like to stop off and do some stretches or weights to break up the long journey? Then why not visit one of our clubs in (southern) France (Nice, Cannes, Perpignan, Lake Geneva). Or, are you heading to the Belgian coast for a summer getaway? Come and do your training at Knokke or Ostend! You can also keep up your fitness in a Basic-Fit club in Luxembourg or Spain (e.g. in Malaga or Madrid). Are you staying in the Netherlands? Then try a club in another city.
And, if there's no gym to be found, you can keep up your fitness outside the gym during the holidays. We'll give you a few tips.
1. Workout without equipment
If you don't have a gym at your holiday destination, you can opt for exercise that you don't need any equipment for. For example, running or jogging for a quiet warm-up. Complete your training with exercises from the Basic-Fit app. The app also includes our virtual GXR classes. What could be better than really relaxing on holiday with a yoga session? Maybe you had one too many ice creams or pigged out at the buffet? Then burn off those calories with a Bootcamp session!
2. More exercise on holiday
Integrate exercise into your holiday in a natural way. Take a long walk, go for a swim and take the stairs where you can. Are there any cool outdoor activities to do? For example, you could go kayaking or mountain biking, it all depends on your destination. One thing you can be sure of, there'll be a sports activity on offer wherever you are!
3. Skipping
Skipping is a great way to get a few minutes of intensive cardio training and you can do it more or less anywhere. So don't forget to pack your skipping rope! I'm sure it will fit in your suitcase :-)
4. Relax
Don't overdo it. Keeping fit is important, but don't lose sight of the real reason for your holiday. Two weeks without a hard workout won't destroy all your work of the past couple of years. In fact, it might be a good idea to give your body some rest. So, don't worry too much. Try to pick your moment to take some exercise – but above all, just enjoy yourself! When you get home, you'll hopefully feel like getting back to it again.
5. Nutrition
Watching your diet when on holiday is difficult. You will soon be seduced by a delicious ice cream, enormous buffet or local specialities/snacks. Above all, enjoy yourself! In the Basic-Fit app you can keep track of your diet and check the state of your calories, protein, fats and carbohydrates. If things really get out of hand, you've got time to take action!
Tip: Can't get the protein and vitamins you need? Make up for your missing protein with an energy bar, e.g. from NXT Level. This will also help you survive a night out!
When you get back home and are ready to start exercising again, it's important that you return to your old routine gradually. But, take it easy! Start the first week with lighter weights and reduce the intensity and/or duration of your workout a little. Then work your way back to your old fitness regime and level!
