Maybe you know the feeling: you start your sports plans enthusiastically and after a few weeks your motivation levels take a bit of a dive. You can skip the gym once, can't you? Or twice... And before you know it, your gym pass is in the drawer unused. Of course you want to avoid that! That's why we give you tips on how to keep up the motivation to go to the gym and keep working on your goals.
1. Train with a sports buddy
It's much easier to keep yourself motivated for the gym when you're training with someone. Cause hey, you don't want to be the one to call every time, do you? What's more, keeping fit with a training buddy is much more fun too. Coach one another, challenge one another and have a lot of fun!
2. Reward yourself
Agree with yourself that if you go to the gym for a certain period of time, for example twice a week for two months, you will get a reward. You could also tie it to achieving a particular goal. Be strict with yourself, if you don't keep your own promise you won't get your reward!
3. Listen to music while exercising
Phone with you, earphones in and go! Time flies if you listen to your favourite music while working out or a podcast that you find really interesting.
4. Plan your gym visit at quiet times
Don't plan to visit your gym at times when there are other things going on. E.g. a get-together, dinner, fun programs on TV or other things. If you have the chance to do something more fun, there is a greater chance that you will skip your training. Your motivation is gone. So, plan your gym visit at times when there are few other activities taking place. In the morning, for example, before you go to work.
5. Keep track of your progress
Nothing is more motivating than seeing your own progress. So, make sure you keep track of your progress as you exercise. For example, you can use the Basic-Fit app in combination with the Virtual Coach scale in every Basic-Fit. Measuring = knowing!
6. Follow a training schedule
Following a training schedule can give you the motivation to keep up with your workout. Because hey, if you don't finish your training schedule, you'll never reach your sports goals!
7. Be realistic
Don't expect to see immediate results when you start working out. Be realistic. It takes a few weeks or months for you to notice that your body has changed as a result of gym work. Don't let that discourage you. Persistence pays off!
