MEET NENCIE

Even as a little girl, Nencie was infatuated with everything that had even a little bit to do with sports. But don't think her personal fitness journey was a piece of cake. It was more of a road of deep valleys and high peaks: from overcoming obesity to competing in the Eredivisie.

Unstoppable
Fitness is the ultimate way for Nencie to clear her head after a long and busy day at work. But for her, fitness also means progress. And that progress is immediately visible. She went from overweight to super slim to super fit. When she thinks about her fitness journey, she beams with pride. It has given her self-confidence, self-love and personal growth.

Counterweight
Although sport has always been an important part of her life, Nencie struggled with her weight. During her sports education she played Premier League handball. She then started working as a sports therapist in healthcare. One day she noticed that her excess weight was holding her back from progress. One of her clients said to her: 'If you want to teach me how to exercise, you should start yourself.' That was the moment she thought: it's enough.

Lost 70 kilos
She lost 70 kilos and feels fitter than ever. She now coaches overweight and obese women to lose weight, love themselves and achieve the same positive mindset as she owns now.

From ucomfortable to comfortable
Nencie is now a true Basic-Fit hero, but when she took her first steps in the gym, a touch of nervousness accompanied her initial excitement. She expected to feel uncomfortable in a place where she thought there was a lot of 'male energy'. Nothing turned out to be further from the truth. In the gym she felt the space to be herself. She managed to build up a healthy routine and made fitness her basic.

Pregnancy
Her pregnancy and the period afterwards were challenging, to say the least. She lost the muscle mass she had just gained and it took time to find a new rhythm and regain her confidence.

From challenge to motivation
Instead of dwelling on this situation, Nencie decided to help herself remember where she started and turned adversity into motivation. Talking about mental strength!

Know what you're doing
According to Nencie, a structured plan, clarity and consistency are the ultimate recipe you need to move forward. If you know what you're doing, training becomes much more fun. Another tip: challenge yourself! Go for unfamiliar exercises and create a new routine.

Focus on yourself
She can recommend it to everyone: don't pay too much attention to what others may think of you and focus on yourself. Ultimately, everyone is most concerned with themselves anyway. So wear that sports bra if it gives you confidence. In fact, no one really cares.

Nencie's tips
If anyone knows how to persevere, it's Nencie.

1. Have a clear training plan: create one yourself or choose one in the Basic-Fit app. Knowing what you are doing leads to lots of self-confidence!
2. Remember: You're at the gym for yourself. Everyone around you is focused on their own workout just like you, so don't worry about what people may or not be thinking. Don't you know how a machine works? Then ask one of your fellow athletes. Most people enjoy helping you.
3. Take photos or videos! You'll see how fast you are progressing and that will lead to more motivation. Especially on days when you're not feeling so-so.

MEET DEAN

In his mind, Dean (26) is as famous as Usher and Michael Jackson combined. This actor, singer and dancer knows: you can only achieve that superstar status by persevering. Because if you want to dance like them, you have to be fit. And if we're talking about perseverence, we're talking about Dean. He does everything he can to stay fit. And he loves it.

Playground for adults
A high heart rate and sweating like crazy, that's exactly how Dean likes it. In the gym he combines cardio with strength training. And he has quite some fun with that. He calls Basic-Fit a playground for adults with all those 'toys' such as treadmills, exercise bikes and rowing machines. And as long as he puts some good music on, he won't get tired of playing.

Weights
Seeing results also gives him a drive to continue. Strength training gives him satisfaction anyway, and when he sees how quickly he becomes stronger... he gets a big kick our of that! With every workout, he gains more confidence. And after every traing session he feels great both physically and mentally.

Uncertainties
Social media can make Dean feel insecure. Especially when he compares himself to people who look nothing like him. Should you let go of social media completely? No, that's not the answer, according to Dean. Use it to compare yourself to people with the same insecurities or challenges you have. That inspires and motivates!

Community
What makes Basic-Fit so special for Dean is the relaxed atmosphere and low threshold. Everyone is there to train and stay healthy, and everyone encourages each other. It is not a competition, but rather a community of people who are all creating healthy habits. Dean even made some new friends during his workouts at Basic-Fit.

24/7
Dean often has to go abroad for work. And then it is extra convenient that Basic-Fit is everywhere. This way he can stay fit, wherever he is and whenever he wants to work out. The opening hours are also a godsend for him with his busy schedule. Whether he wants to exercise early in the morning to start his day fresh or in the evening after work, Basic-Fit is always there for him.

• Don't compare yourself to other people in the gym. Who knows how long they have been going to the gym.

Meet Aniek Kluin, a 20-year-old powerhouse, currently on an inspiring journey at the Fashion Institute, specialising in Fashion and Business & Development. Aniek radiates determination and creativity, not only in her studies but also in her pursuit of a fit and happy lifestyle.

She’s passionate about pushing her limits, and Aniek thrives in the gym, dedicating herself to at least four invigorating workouts each week. Only 1.5 years ago, she conquered a half marathon in the Netherlands, a testament to her motivation and commitment. Now Aniek aspires to run a full marathon, a goal that gives her motivation to train!

Fitness is more than physical
Fitness for Aniek is more than just a routine – it's her source of self-empowerment. Sweating it out not only revitalises her body, but also fuels her mind. Post-workout, she's armed/ been fuelled with renewed energy and heightened focus – at Basic-Fit, this is what we like to call the afterglow. Even the pandemic's unwelcome intrusion couldn't dampen her spirits. In the face of gym closures, she embraced running with gusto/passion and accomplished a half marathon in Enschede, The Netherlands. Meet Tim, a multi-talented individual – singer, actor, and drama teacher extraordinaire! At 24 years of age, he lives a healthy and happy life.

Grounding and fuelling his vibrant life as an actor, singer, and drama teacher, lies a journey of remarkable transformation - a journey that made him shed an impressive 45 kilos! Not only to look better but to feel happier and grasp the moments of life that matter.

Fuelled by adversity
The driving force behind this remarkable journey? Tim's aspiration to live life on his terms is fuelled by the echoes of past adversaries. Sadly, his primary and secondary school years were marked by relentless bullying spanning eight years. The reason? His love for theatre and music set him apart, his passions turning into a target for sadness, insecurity, and fear. As his weight increased, so did the burden of isolation and insecurities. However, amidst the shadows, the stage and melodies always held the key to his solace and strength.

From grappling with the label of "extra size" to conquering obesity triumphantly, Tim's path shifted dramatically in January 2021. Since then, he has shed 45 kilos, an achievement that radiates undeniable pride. Despite his remarkable journey and life achievements, the scars left by bullies remain. Meet Jeremy

Sports as an outlet? That's exactly what Jeremy, a 32-year-old content creator from Brussels, uses his training for. After a busy day at work, there is only one thing that gets him out of his mind: a good gym session.

Blow off steam
Yes, of course exercising is also a way to maintain a fit body and make it even stronger. But those muscles are not the most important to Jeremy. It is mainly his mind that benefits so much from a good workout.

Just go!
But it's not all sunshine and rainbows. In fact, there are entire periods when exercising does not feel easy for Jeremy at all. Little time, no desire, less motivation... He now has a fixed recipe for this: stop bumming and start training lighter. By lifting less weight and running shorter distances, he lowers the threshold for going to the gym. His advice for others is: it doesn't matter how fast you go, as long as you gó.

Gymtimidation
But there was more. He once really dreaded training in a gym, he worried about gymtimidation. He preferred to train alone, in his own bubble, without the looks of others. Yet one day he decided to try Basic-Fit and guess what: he immediately felt at home. It actually motivated him, and it turned out that he could continue exercising at his own pace and in his own bubble. All prejudices he had about gyms were sweated away. He felt damn comfortable in the club.

Sports as therapy
Sports were once mainly a way for Jeremy to become stronger and more confident. Once that goal was achieved, he started using his workouts as therapy.
